Just-In-Time

What is Just In Time?

Just In Time (JIT) is a supply chain management strategy that aims to reduce inventory levels and increase efficiency by delivering goods and materials to their destination exactly when they are needed, rather than in advance. In the maritime industry, JIT typically involves coordinating the arrival of ships carrying cargo with the availability of transportation and distribution channels at the destination port, in order to minimize storage and handling costs.

JIT is often used in the context of manufacturing and retail, where it is important to balance inventory levels with customer demand in order to reduce waste and improve profitability. In the maritime industry, JIT can help to reduce port congestion and delays, as well as lower costs associated with warehousing and inventory management. However, JIT can also be challenging to implement, as it requires careful coordination and communication between shippers, carriers, and receivers, as well as the use of advanced logistics technologies and systems.
